Her Stories

The year 2021 is about breaking glass ceilings, and leading into the future: Kamala Harris became the first woman to serve as the Vice President of the United States. Women and girls from all walks of life are coming together to stand up for racial justice, challenge gender norms, and create welcoming, safe spaces for others to use their voices. In a time of the unexpected, we are surrounded by women who have persevered and are making it their mission to open doors for the next generations.

WORLD Channel celebrates these groundbreaking women, well-known and a little less-known, like Madam C.J. Walker, Monique Verdin, Deborah Payne, Sandy White Hawk, and Melody McCurtis whose works positively ripple through society. Throughout March, we will share the stories of women who have defied traditional social standards for the opportunity at equality and equity in programs AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange, American Experience, American Masters, Independent Lens, POV and Reel South, and our own exclusive series America ReFramed and Local, USA.
