America Lost
By Christopher Rufo. A Co-Production of WNET's Chasing the Dream: Poverty & Opportunity in America.
AMERICA LOST explores three of America’s “forgotten cities” - Youngstown, Ohio, Memphis, Tennessee and Stockton, California. Through a series of stories, the film shows the dramatic decline of once prosperous communities: an ex-steel worker scrapping abandoned homes to make ends meet, a father trying to put his life back together after incarceration, and a single mother dreaming of a better future for her daughter. The film sheds light on how crumbling economic and social institutions have created a gap between the haves and have nots while also offering hope for rebuilding America’s “forgotten” from the bottom up.
