Vegas Baby
By Amanda Micheli
The Sher Institute in Las Vegas is holding a contest, offering a free round of in-vitro fertilization to one lucky winner. Is it a real opportunity for the nearly 1 in 6 couples who are unable to conceive and carry a child to term, or is it really a bad bet?
VEGAS BABY follows three families so desperate to have a child, they’re willing to enter the contest – although, even if they do win, there’s no guarantee they’ll get pregnant and have a baby. Rosalinda & Dago are devout Catholics who worry about the Church’s objections to IVF but still want to try to conceive. Athena is a single woman who says it was easier to come out as a lesbian than to reveal her infertility. And Ann & Brian have spent so much on fertility treatments, they may lose their house to foreclosure. For these couples, the contest may be their last chance at starting a family.
VEGAS BABY reveals their heartache, the judgment they face, and the burgeoning costs of fighting infertility.
