Veterans Coming Home: Military/Civilian Divide
A collaboration between Wisconsin Public Television and Kindling Group
Four documentary shorts from the VETERANS COMING HOME project look at the military-civilian divide in America.
- Recruiting in Times Square goes inside the recruitment process, and the candidates who enlist, including new Americans. (WNET)
- From War to the Happiest Place on Earth features an Army veteran who has a picture perfect life and job but wrestles with the demons of post-traumatic stress disorder. (WUCF)
- Invisible Wounds explores the trauma of military sexual assault, and one survivor who seeks justice and healing. (KPBS)
- It’s Not Easy Being a Queer Pacifist Vietnam Vet is a portrait of an activist and veteran whose experience being a closeted gay man in the military has led him to fight for LGBT rights and peace. These stories reflect the diverse post-war experience of our veterans, as civilians ask how we can truly support our troops. (WHYY)
VETERANS COMING HOME is an innovative public media project exploring the lives of post-9/11 veterans, the divide between them and their communities, and the stereotypes that veterans and civilians hold about each other. Why does this divide exist? How does it affect communities across the country? And why does it matter?
