The Open Mind

About This Program

Premiered in May 1956, The Open Mind with founder Richard D. Heffner was designed to elicit insights into the challenges Americans face in contemporary areas of national concern. Today, the longest-running public broadcast in the history of American television continues with Heffner's grandson, host Alexander Heffner. The Open Mind is a thoughtful excursion into the world of ideas across politics, media, technology, the arts and all realms of civic life. The goal of the show? To "interrogate ideas" rather than guests in order to further a “vision of communications and media serving the public interest” (New York Times, September 2014).

The Open Mind airs Sundays at 3:30/2:30c on WORLD.
