About This Episode
Transformative Chefs is an engaging, hour-long, primetime special that tells the stories of three iconic celebrity chefs who are transforming the way we eat. This special highlights each chef's personal journey: how food helped celebrated chef Lidia Bastianich maintain her heritage after she immigrated to America; why food icon Ming Tsai raised a million dollars for Boston Marathon bombing victims; and why Presidential favorite Marcus Samuelsson is mentoring the next generation of chefs in Harlem. By focusing on inspiring human stories rather than recipes, the special indicates how food can be much more than nourishment. Host Alison Stewart conducts the intimate interviews, which include visits to special places that have helped shape the lives of each chef.
These intimate profiles uncover the formative stories about each chef -- from childhood experiences with food and their rise to prominence in the competitive culinary world to their separate missions to better the community through food. Transformative Chefs also highlights standout moments from each career, such as Lidia Bastianich opening her first restaurant, Ming Tsai helping world diplomacy through food and Marcus Samuelsson cooking for President Obama.
These focused sit-down interviews will be augmented with vérité style footage of our chefs with family and friends. In joining the spontaneity of field footage with the intimacy and focus of sit-down interviews, Transformative Chefs will illustrate the lives of iconic chefs who do so much more than whip up culinary delights.
