Splinters

About This Episode

In the 1980’s an intrepid Australian pilot left behind a surfboard in the seaside village of Vanimo, Papua New Guinea. Twenty years later, surfing is not only a pillar of village life, but it’s also a means to prestige.

Splinters unfolds in the months leading up to the first National Surf Championships and explores the hopes and dreams of the surfers, the effect that surfing has had on relationships, societal changes, and the rivalries that surface between friends and families within this tight knit, male-dominated community.
