Roadtrip Nation: Beyond the Dream

About This Episode

Roadtrip Nation: Beyond the Dream follows three undocumented immigrants — Alexis, Rachel and Pratishtha — who were brought to the U.S. at a young age by their parents. They have been granted temporary relief from deportation through DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), an immigration policy which has allowed them to live and work in the country for a two-year period. Without long-term protections, Rachel, Alexis and Pratishtha have a much graver question to ponder: “Will I be able to stay in this country?”

Determined to clarify their futures, they set out for an unforgettable journey from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The roadtrippers talk to fellow immigrants who have carved out productive lives as Americans, despite being denied the right to call themselves such. Their interview subjects are diverse, ranging from a staunch Republican who champions immigrant rights to a former Goldman Sachs VP who outed herself as undocumented, to journalist Jose Antonio Vargas and actress Diane Guerrero.

Beyond the Dream brings to light the stories of those living in the shadows and gives voice to those whose perspectives have been drowned out: undocumented immigrants, themselves.
