Protecting Paradise: The Western Everglades
About This Episode
For more than a century, dreamers and schemers have tried to drain and claim the Florida Everglades. In Southwest Florida, on the western edge of Everglades, plume hunting, clear-cutting of ancient cypress trees, development of the “world’s largest subdivision” and the “world’s largest supersonic jetport” near Everglades National Park, inspired a groundswell of grassroots effort to protect the vanishing wet wilderness known as the Western Everglades.
Narrated by Peter Thomas, Protecting Paradise: The Western Everglades tells this story through historic photographs, vintage footage and interviews with leaders of the early conservation movement and biologists and environmentalists.
