Waiting For August

About This Episode

Georgiana Halmac turns fifteen this winter. She lives in a housing block in the outskirts of Bacau, Romania, in a cramped apartment with her six younger brothers and sisters. Their single mother Liliana has left for Italy to earn money, forced to leave her children alone. As they await her return at the end of the summer, Georgiana is catapulted into the role of head of the family.

Waiting for August is a charming verité film with a teenager’s point of view on the dynamics of leading a family with an absent parent. As the younger siblings get by, Georgiana manages the difficult task at hand with naiveté and grit.
