About This Episode

The United States is struggling to care for its elders. 90% of Americans want to age at home, but many of them cannot depend on their families and have to turn to paid caretakers. Told through the stories of both caretakers and their clients, Care illuminates the many challenges and deep attachments that can be formed between the elderly and the home care workers they depend on.

The film introduces viewers to an undocumented immigrant who is the lifeline for a 92-year-old living alone, and another caretaker who becomes deeply attached to a client waiting for a lung transplant. A third family realizes that they need help: the father’s illness is overwhelming his family. His wife asks their caretaker, anxiously, “You’re not going to quit, are you?”
