Nelson George is an African American author, journalist, filmmaker, critic, and executive producer. Hailing from the projects of East New York, George learned the importance of hard work from his mother at a very early age. As a journalist, editor and contributor to both Billboard Magazine _and _The Village Voice, George's early career focused on music and the African American community. He's written a volume of work on the African American experience through music and worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Chris Rock and Spike Lee.
Nelson George has penned over fifteen non-fiction books, a wide collection of articles, and released several films and documentaries celebrating black history and culture in America. Recently, Nelson George released a documentary on Magic Johnson’s decision to reveal his status as HIV positive titled The Announcement.
