About This Episode

For Beverly Bond, music is everything. It defined her childhood and helped her through the shadows of underground clubs to become one of today’s most sought after DJ’s. Bond started her career track as a teen fashion model but left it behind to seek a profession in music. Leaving an industry fraught with superficiality for the male-dominated world of music production, she found the negative stereotypes of women she repeatedly faced both demeaning and degrading.

Beverly Bond founded Black Girls Rock!, a non-profit organization promoting and developing leadership roles among African American teens. By recognizing and celebrating the strong African American women of history and media, she has fought the negative images and embraced her role as a woman of leadership in the African American community. She continues to promote positive roles of black women in music and media while spinning for some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
