About This Collection
In conjunction with the sixth season of Global Voices, Women and Girls Lead presents an online exclusive premiere of Through Her Lens. Created by women filmmakers, the collection of dramatic short films features international stories and content about women from New York City's Chinatown to Spanish Town, Jamaica. Through Her Lens explores social issues facing women and girls worldwide through a character driven-narrative.

Written and directed by Cherien Dabis, Not Another Word peeks inside a Middle Eastern home, where three generations of women are in conflict over the future of Lama. She, the youngest of the four, refuses to get married and argues with her grandmother and mother over a possible suitor. Half of Her
Written and directed by Paola Mendoza, Half of Her follows the story of Mei, a Chinese immigrant living in a tenement building in New York City’s Chinatown. In labor, Mei struggles to give birth alone. Although the child is born safely, the baby's father tries to force Mei to abandon her upon discovering it's a girl. A special presentation of Global Voices in partnership with Women & Girls Lead.
Good Country People
Written and directed by Tanya Hamilton, Good Country People is the story of Blossom Edwards, who must become her family's primary breadwinner as a taxi cab driver in Spanish Town, Jamaica. With an impending election, she is exposed to dangerous situations in the poor rural community that is also a war zone. A special presentation of Global Voices in partnership with Women & Girls Lead.
